OTA commission
OTA commission is the share of a booking’s value that a hotel pays an online travel agency, such as Booking.com or Expedia, for a reservation made through it.
How to work out what it costs
The rate is written in each OTA’s contract, and it is rarely the whole cost: visibility programmes, preferred-partner schemes and payment fees can add to it. To see what a channel really costs, take the commission actually invoiced over a month and divide it by the room revenue those bookings produced. Do it for each OTA separately.
Then compare it with what a direct booking costs you to win: the booking engine, the payment fee, and the time someone spent answering the guest.
Commission is not a reason to leave an OTA. It is the price of a guest the hotel would not otherwise have reached. The question is whether guests who would have booked direct are paying it too.
Where Wizorks fits
Wizorks does not change what you pay an OTA. It answers the guests who write to your own channels, so a booking that starts on your WhatsApp or in the chat on your website can finish there.
